How To Crochet Spike Stitch
Are you tired of the same old crochet stitches and looking for a way to spice up your projects? The spike stitch might just be the answer you've been searching for.
The spike stitch, also known as the long double crochet or elongated stitch, is a crochet technique that involves working a double crochet into a row or rounds below the current row. This creates a raised stitch that adds a unique texture to your work. The spike stitch is easy to learn and can be used in various ways to create stunning patterns.
Let's dive into the basics of crocheting the spike stitch:
Materials Needed:
- Yarn of your choice
- Crochet hook suitable for your yarn
- I use 5mm/H8 crochet hook and acrylic yarn
Make foundation ch
Row 1:
in 5th ch from the hook make 1dc, 1 dc, 1 ch, skip 1, *3 dc, 1 ch, repeat from * till the end of the row, finish with 3 dc in 3 last st.
Row 2:
3 ch, 2 dc, *1 ch, skip 1 ch, 3 dc, repeat from * till the end of the row
Row 3 (change color):
4 ch, skip 1, *1 dc, here's where the magic happens, instead of working in the current row, make 1 dc into the row below (red point on the pic), 1 dc, 1 ch, skip 1, repeat from * till the end of the row.
Row 4:
3 ch, dc st in each st till the end of the row
Row 5:
Repeats row 1
Repeat rows 2-5 till necessary length
The spike stitch is a fantastic addition to your crochet repertoire. It's a simple yet impactful way to add texture and depth to your projects. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced crocheter, experimenting with the spike stitch can lead to stunning results. So, grab your yarn and hook, and start creating unique, textured garments that will turn heads and keep you warm and stylish.
