The world of crochet is filled with a multitude of stitches and techniques, but have you ever wanted to achieve the classic look of knitting in your crochet projects? Well, you're in luck! In this tutorial, we'll explore how to create the knit and purl stitch using crochet techniques.
This versatile stitch opens up a whole new world of design possibilities, allowing you to mimic the look of traditional knitting with your trusty crochet hook.
Materials You'll Need:
-
Worsted weight yarn (or any yarn of your choice)
-
Crochet hook suitable for your yarn weight (refer to the yarn label for recommendations)
-
Basic crochet knowledge
Let's Get Started:
Step 1: Begin by creating a foundation chain with an even number of stitches, connect both ends of the chain by making a slip stitch
Step 2: Working continuously in the round, perform a single crochet into each chain, without joining the round.
Step 3:
Working continuously in the round, *1 sc in back loops only (blue on pic below), 1 split sc stitch (yellow on pic below), repeat from * all the way around, without joining the round.
Note:
SPLIT SINGLE CROCHET STITCH: This stitch is worked as a single crochet but where the hook is inserted is the only difference. The hook will be inserted between the 'V' of the stitch. Join to the center of split stitch when working in the round with a join.
Step 4: Continue repeating the instructions from Step 3 until you achieve the desired height for your project.
Congratulations!
Now, go ahead and incorporate it into your next crochet masterpiece! Happy crocheting!
